Tower100 2008
A journey of 90,000 steps
A year after Jalal completed the walk around the UAE it was time for the 2nd project. Jalal Got his inspiration from seeing people competing in a tower marathon outside his gymnasium at the Emirates towers in Dubai. After watching how they went up and down the single tower for a charity Jalal thought it would be interesting to do something on a much larger scale and not just one tower either.
This time his Humanitarian Journey would take him through 100 towers in Dubai in just 12 days. Jalal had chosen to work with the Rashid pediatric center for special needs. Upon hearing of Jalal’s idea and plan they supported him all the way. The Rashid Pediatric center had worked with Jalal to gain permission to use each towers staircases. It took around 2 weeks to get approval. Starting on January 20th 2008 at the emirates towers in Dubai and ending on the 1st of February 2008 at the Dubai world trade center,Jalal had taken around 90,000 steps and 2775 floors in 12 days. Again he broke a record becoming the first man to scale 100 towers in 12 days for the Rashid pediatric center.
This was the first time in history anyone had attempted such a feat. He was successful in proving that even such an extreme event was possible with a carefully thought out plan. Determination and a strong will to complete the project were also necessary. It is believed that Jalal BinThaneya was the first person to conduct a vertical marathon on such a large scale.
During this project tower100 Jalal was supported by:
MEDCARE hospital: Provided Jalal with medical support such a emergency doctor, emergency nurse, ambulance and supplies such as food and water.
AVIS: The rent a car company stepped in to help Jalal transport. The bus they provided was custom tailored to store supplies and for rest.
DP World and Jafza: Provided Jalal with funding to equip himself for project tower100.
Project tower100 was documented by Blinkstudios. It was produced by Merwaan Abboud and Mona El Hajj
